A file often needs a temporary stop between where it is and where it is going: a screenshot for a message, an attachment for an email, or a document for another window.
That is the job of the Nimbus Shelf. Clipboard history solves a different problem: getting back to something you copied before your latest copy replaced it.
Use Shelf for a file you are moving between apps
Drag a file into the Shelf, switch to the destination app, and drag it out when you are ready. This is useful when the destination window is buried or you need a moment to find the right conversation.
Start with one file and your usual destination app. Not every app accepts every file type through drag and drop, so a failed drop can also be a limitation of the receiving app.
Use clipboard history for something you copied
If you copied a link and then copied a sentence, open Nimbus's clipboard history to find the earlier item. Shelf is for staging files; clipboard history is for returning to recent copies.
Check what you are pasting before sending it. Copied content can include private information, so treat a clipboard history as part of your personal workspace.
Keep the Shelf temporary
Remove items when you are finished with them. A short Shelf is easier to scan than another folder full of things you might need someday.
Keep important originals in a normal folder or your existing backup system. The Shelf is a convenient stop during a task, not a reason to give up an organized file system.
You do not need a physical notch
Nimbus draws an island at the top of the display. You can use it on a Mac without a hardware notch as well. The Mac download supports Intel and Apple silicon.
