Why does my Mac say Nimbus can’t be opened?

Nimbus isn’t notarized by Apple yet, so the first launch is blocked. Right-click Nimbus in Applications and choose Open, then Open again. If macOS still refuses, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. You only do this once; after that it opens normally and updates itself.

Why does Windows say “Windows protected your PC”?

Nimbus for Windows isn’t code-signed yet, so SmartScreen warns about any new app it hasn’t seen much. Click More info, then Run anyway. Once only; after that it opens normally and updates itself.

Is there a Windows version?

Yes. Nimbus for Windows runs on Windows 10 (2004 or later) and Windows 11. It puts the same island at the top of your screen with Now Playing and lyrics, Together and the Shelf. Most PCs want the standard download; Snapdragon and other ARM laptops want the ARM version.

Do I need a Mac with a notch?

No. Nimbus draws its own island at the top of the screen, so it works the same on a MacBook with a notch, on an external display, and on Windows.

What does it cost?

Nothing. There’s no subscription and no upsell inside the app.

Which systems are supported?

Mac: macOS 13 Ventura or newer, on Apple silicon and Intel — one universal app. Windows: Windows 10 (2004) or 11, x64 or ARM. Together also works in any modern browser, including on phones.

What is Together?

Your friends in the notch: chat, and Live — share whatever your computer is playing so friends can listen along, with the song, artwork and synced lyrics on their screen. It uses one Nimbus account on your Mac, your PC and the website.

How do I add a friend?

Open Together (on the Mac: swipe up on the notch; on the web: Log in → People → Add friend) and create an invite code. Send it — or on the web, the invite link — to your friend and they enter it under “Or enter theirs”. A code works once and lasts 24 hours. One accepted code makes you friends both ways.

Can I use Together on my phone?

Yes, in the browser — no app to install. Log in on the website to chat, add friends and listen to a Live. On iPhone, turn off the silent switch to hear it. Listening to your own Mac there also gives you play/pause, skip and the progress bar.

I forgot my password.

On the Log in page, choose Forgot password and enter your email. A 6-digit code appears on your devices that are still signed in — Nimbus on your Mac or PC, or Together in another browser. Enter it with a new password. Setting a new password signs out every other device on the account. If you’re signed out everywhere, ask for help.

Why is a Live a little behind?

Live sends your computer’s real sound over the internet, so the people listening hear it a moment after you do — usually well under a second, less on the same Wi-Fi. Lyrics and the progress bar on their screen follow what they’re hearing, not what you’re hearing.

Nobody can hear my Live.

Check that the friend is on your list (Together → People) and that they pressed Join; audio only starts after they do. On a phone, the silent switch mutes it. If it stopped after your Mac slept or changed Wi-Fi, give it a few seconds — Nimbus reconnects on its own.

Can Nimbus show my messages?

Yes, on the Mac. When a message notification appears, from Messages, Instagram, LINE, Discord, WhatsApp and similar apps, the notch shows who it's from and what it says for a few seconds, and a click opens it. This includes notifications mirrored from your iPhone. It needs Accessibility access, shows exactly what the system banner shows, and never appears while the Mac is locked. Turn it off, or on for every app, in Settings → Alerts.

Why doesn't an Instagram, WhatsApp or LINE call ring in the notch?

Those calls ring on your iPhone, and the iPhone doesn't pass the ringing on to the Mac; it only sends the missed-call notification afterwards, which Nimbus does show, with Call Back when the app offers it. FaceTime and ordinary phone calls do ring on the Mac, so those open in the notch with Answer and Decline. A call you take on the Mac itself, in Zoom, Teams, Discord, LINE or a browser tab, shows its running time beside the notch.

Does the notch work on the lock screen?

On the Mac, yes. The notch stays visible while the Mac is locked, and a row of widgets sits under the clock: what's playing with its controls, the weather, your battery and your AirPods. Choose the cards, where they sit and Glass or Dark in Settings → Lock Screen.

Can I change the notch's background?

Black is the default, because it lets the island blend into the camera notch. In Settings → Appearance → Notch background you can fill the open island with a picture of your own or with the cover of whatever is playing, and adjust dim and blur.

Can Face Unlock fill my passwords?

On the Mac, yes. Turn on Settings → Face Unlock → Approve Touch ID and password prompts. When a browser or app asks for Touch ID to fill a saved password, or System Settings or an installer asks for your password, look at your Mac: Nimbus checks your face and answers Apple's dialog with your login password. It only answers Apple's own dialogs, only for your account, once per dialog. Face Unlock is a convenience, not Face ID, so leave this off if other people can sit at your Mac.

Why does macOS ask for keychain access after an update?

Nimbus isn't signed with an Apple Developer ID yet, so macOS treats each new version as a new app and asks again before letting it read what it saved: your Together sign-in and your Face Unlock data. Choose Always Allow. Nimbus asks when it starts, never while the Mac is locked.
